Kaleidoscope
Kaleidoscrope is a project playing with the concept of media transcoding. This small installation plays with mirror effects and the idea of images being compressed or changed as internet users share, download, and upload files. Using a raspberry pi server, a website shows a downward camera view through a rotating kaleidoscope that looks into a screen projecting a user's uploaded image. The actions of the user choosing their own image and seeing it distorted through a lens and seperate screen mimics the compressing nature of image transcoding. A servo motor rotates the kaleidoscope, so every few seconds the distorted image seen on the website shifts into something new.
